			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Flood defences have been present on the Wirral’s coast line since 1829.</p>
<p>The revetment between Leasowe and Meols was first constructed in 1923 and reconstructed in 1983. Some see the defences as a blight on our natural shore line, but as much of Britain’s coast is diminishing fast, the Wirral is well protected.</p>
<p>The stark contrast between engineering, landscape and human activity creates an interesting visual juxtaposition, not always seen or appreciated.</p>
